Healing Hospital Chandigarh - Ectopic Pregnancy

Ectopic Pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy or tubal pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus. The fertilised egg cannot survive outside the uterus. If left to grow, it may damage the internal organs causing a lot of blood loss and threatening the life of the woman with such condition. This egg which mainly gets fertilized in the fallopian tube has to get removed to prevent any internal injury.

The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include back pain, pelvic pain and vaginal bleeding.

Cancer

The word Cancer itself strikes mind-numbing fear. Five main types of gynaecological cancers are Cervical Cancer, Ovarian Cancer, Vaginal Cancer, Uterine Cancer and Vulvar Cancer.

Cervical cancer occurs in the cervix and causes tremendous back pain. Other symptoms include lower abdominal pain, foul smelling white discharge, and bleeding in between periods and after sexual intercourse.

This tumour can be prevented by PAP smear screening and HPV vaccine. Treatment of this cancer can be done through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of one or more of the upper reproductive organs, including the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. Although it can happen at any age but it is most commonly seen after the age of 25.

Symptoms of PID include severe back pain, pelvis pain and nausea.

Retroverted uterus

In a retroverted uterus, the uterus is tipped backwards so that it aims towards the rectum instead of forward towards the belly. Such a condition can lead to very severe back pain and painful sex.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus. It most commonly involves ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining the pelvis. Symptoms include severe pain and menstrual irregularities.

PMS and PMDD

Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) is a very common condition which is faced by women a few days before their periods. Symptoms of PMS include severe back pain, headache, fatigue, bloating, mood swings, food cravings and anxiety. PMS is a common factor among women and isn’t very dangerous.

Premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD) however is a severe and rare form of PMS. The factors of PMDD interfere with daily life and its functioning. PMDD has almost the same symptoms as PMS but only worse. A family history of PMDD, depression or mood disorders may increase the risk of having PMDD.

The bottom line is that there are many factors that may lead to back pain among women which may or may not be dangerous. But if you experience unbearable back pain along with some other symptoms as mentioned in this article, it is highly recommended that you see a gynaecologist.
